Social Security

I do not believe in Social Security. Caring for the elderly and needy is the responsibility of caring families and churches, not impersonal unelected bureaucrats who operate as if money is a limitless commodity that comes without cost. Nonetheless, acknowledging its status as an immovable centerpiece of America's social and economic structure, I would like to share a few observations and ideas, which to my knowledge have not heretofore seeped into the public forum.

The Problem

The popular approach to fixing Social Security is identical to that used to "fix" education or "fix" athletic events, namely, adding more money. Unfortunately, this type of fix is inherently defective; ignoring moral issues,  it undermines the quality of the resulting societal product. Ever-increasing taxes squeeze the economic life out of an already overtaxed populace.

There are two main causes of the insecurity of Social Security. First is its design as a pay-as-you-go scheme, dependent on current wages to support current retirees. In the world of finance, it is what is known as a pyramid, or Ponzi, scheme, which would be illegal in the private sector. Rather than being saved for the future, payments by individuals are spent by the federal government, and at the same time counted on the revenue side of the federal budget. Again, in the private sector such a practice is illegal. A corporate accountant attempting such a stunt would soon be wearing a striped jumpsuit. Exacerbating the situation is the seniors' powerful lobby, which has succeeded in obtaining ever-increasing benefits payouts, far in excess of what today's retirees paid into the system.

The second cause of Social Security's insecurity is demographics.  Most analysts blame SS problems on the relentless approach of the time when large numbers of baby boomers reach the age when they switch from paying into the system to collecting from the system. This analysis fails to take into account the fact that in the past 26 years, nearly 40,000,000 people have been destroyed in the holocaust of abortion. These 40 million could easily have provided funds sufficient to keep baby boomers' Social Security afloat, even with SS's inherently flawed system. Most writers, however, steeped in the culture of death, are unwilling or afraid to acknowledge the negative impact that abortion is having on society.

The Solution

Mending the system so it can survive requires two steps. First, we need to replace those 40,000,000 whose lives have been sacrificed on the altar of convenience. The most expedient way to do this is to open American borders to a fresh wave of immigration. And as we fill the demographic ranks with workers, we can also provide much-needed relief for a world full of oppressed people, from such places as China, Sudan, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. We can put into practice the words of Emma Lazarus engraved on the Statue of Liberty:

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

The second step necessary to repair Social Security is for America to end abortion, for once and for all. I have heard all the arguments in favor of abortion, most of them updated and recycled from the previous century's pro-slavery movement. As a nation, we successfully weaned ourselves off of slavery. Now it is time to rectify the horrendous social injustice of abortion.

All life is a gift from God, and in honoring life, we honor the God Who created all.
