Christianity and Islam:
The Failure of Islam
This article is the first
in a multipart series. Other installments include the false claims of Islam,
Mohammed the first
Islamic terrorist, and why Muslims are the enemies of Christians.
"And you
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
-- John 8:32
"We
will renew the promise of the Peace Corps, double its volunteers over the
next five years and ask it to join a new effort to encourage development,
and education and opportunity in the Islamic world."
-- President Bush, Jan. 29, 2002
The Islamic world
is a mess. What is wrong with it is not the weather, or a lack of natural
resources, or prejudice against Muslims, or the continued existence of
Jews or Christians. What is wrong with the Islamic world is Islam.
Islam is one of the world's largest cults. It was founded in 610
A.D. by a camel driver known later as Mohammed (popular spelling of
the preferred Muhammad), who claimed to have
received special revelations from God (Allah). Mohammed took some of the
Bible (Moses, David, the prophets, and Jesus) and rewrote it for his own
purposes (the Koran), claiming that God had revealed to him that the Bible
had become corrupted beyond usability, so God was giving him a new
version. (Similar tactics have been employed by cult founders of the past
two centuries, such as Joseph Smith, Mary Baker Eddy, Sun Myung Moon, and
Charles Taze Russell.)
The failure of Islam in society begins with its foundational premise that
mankind can be made perfect. Both Christianity and Islam recognize the
inherent sinfulness of man. But while Christians understand that salvation
can only come in the perfection and love of Jesus,
Muslims believe that a man can become perfect simply by working at it. The
obviously true adage that "nobody's perfect" does not stop
Muslims from striving for perfection, or from enforcing their version of
perfection on others, through oppressive government.
Citizens of Muslim countries enjoy no personal liberty. They are denied
freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and other basic freedoms
that Americans understand to be unalienable God-given rights. They cannot
even dress and groom themselves as they choose. Muslims claim that Jews
are oppressors; but when I visited Israel several years ago, I was free to
read my Bible openly in every Jewish-controlled sector, including their
most holy places such as the Wailing Wall. But Muslim soldiers confiscated
all Bibles on the Muslim-controlled Temple Mount.
Contrary to recent statements in the media referring to Islam as a
peaceful religion, Muslim children are taught to despise Jews and
Christians, and to seek to destroy them. They are taught hate instead of
love, fear instead of confidence, and violence instead of peace. And these
concepts are being taught, not only in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, but
also in Muslim schools in America.
Islam suffocates
the human spirit, stifling compassion and creativity. Thus, the President
of the United States recognizes the need in Muslim countries for
development, education, and opportunity. I agree with him on this point,
but Islamic leaders will disagree. They will see the President's good
intentions as evil and arrogant. They believe that people's lives are in
the hands of an angry and capricious god, who commands them to destroy
those who do not submit to their harsh authority.
With a
religion-based philosophy that Allah does not care about individuals,
Muslim governments do not care about their citizens. Their eyes, clouded
by hatred, see no purpose for kindness and caring and love. Thus, Muslim
countries continue to live by the standards of the 7th Century. While they
pursue jihad in the name of Allah, they ignore their own people's
basic needs for food, shelter, education, and medical treatment. Their
governments are chronically at war with the rest of the world, actively
promoting acts of terrorism against civilians. They are a failure and a
disgrace to the human race.
Christianity
birthed modern science and technology (based on the uniquely Christian
understanding that God created an orderly universe, governed by natural
laws). Christians founded nearly all of the world's great universities,
and many of the world's great hospitals, orphanages, and relief agencies.
Christianity is the basis of the best (American) government in the world.
Christians caused slavery to be abolished in the West (although slavery is
still practiced in Muslim countries and sanctioned by their governments).
